Headed by Richard Mercer  Skill*Smart  provides training for food industry personnel.

Richard has been involved in the food industry since leaving school at 16 where he first joined Macfisheries in Sale Cheshire.  In those days you became well acquainted with a brush and shovel because thats the only piece of equipment a young lad straight from school was allowed to handle.

Thankfully things have now improved and most school leavers have some idea about business and industry and are now also put through an induction process during their first months in work,  its just that we know better now how to introduce people to the job and organisation and this means training them, but really it shouldn't stop there.

In another 20 years we will have learned, and continuous training will be the norm.

Working with national and multinational companies

We have successfully supplied and implemented a range of specialist training programmes throughout fresh food areas within retail and food manufacture in specialist areas of  Fish, Meat, Deli, Produce, Bakery and Food Service.

All our training associates are time served professionals who also have the qualifications to support and mentor their candidates through each of the courses.

Our trainers often use a hands on approach  and aspire to train using the knowledge,  skill and understanding developed  from their experience gained within  the industry.

We also produce training resources:
  • Operational guides
  • Product information guides
  • Reference books
  • Associated workbooks

These guides are specifically geared to your procedures and assist your employees in their knowledge and understanding of their specific job role. This can create a more confident and assured employee and will also ensure compliance and continuity with current legislation.

By the time Richard was 19 he was the area relief manager.

Eventually he became branch manager he then joined Asda.  But thats another story, he went on to open his own store and adding two more along the way this kept him occupied for more than 20 years.
